Insistence is resistance

Insistence is resistance

Hello my friend,

Have you ever heard that phrase before? 'Insistence is resistance'?

If you haven't heard that one, I'm sure you've heard similar:

  • What you resist, persists
  • Go with the flow
  • Let it be
  • Roll with it
  • Easy does it

...and so on.

What these phrases mean is that it's much more effective to loosen our grip on things and allow whatever it is we want to come about.

Not an easy thing to master (especially if you can be a bit of a control freak! πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈπŸ˜¬)

Here's the thing though, force is fear in action.

When we feel relaxed, aligned, and connected, it's so much easier to have faith that everything is working out as it should. It's easier to go with the flow, because we feel good. We're relaxed. Energy is flowing freely, we feel abundant and at ease.

When we're stressed, the flow of energy is constricted. Our focus is narrowed and we tend to grip more tightly and feel a little more tense - perhaps even desperate.

In this state, we're tapping into a feeling of scarcity, not abundance.

Here's a visual for you...

You're on holiday, standing in the swimming pool with a beach ball. Someone challenges you to push the ball to the bottom of the pool where you're standing and hold it there for as long as you can.

The ball is light, it's full of air, and yet it takes so much effort and manoeuvring to push the ball down even part way, let alone hold it there. The more you push on it, the more resistance you meet. It's a struggle - it takes a lot of effort, energy and focus.

It's so much easier to let go and allow it to float to the top.

Zero effort required on your part, no energy, no focus, you just let go.

Once you let go, tension is released, your muscles can relax, you can take your focus off the ball and zoom out and enjoy the scenery and the feeling of the sun on your face. It's easy. What a relief! You feel better immediately.

That's the way it is with anything in life.

The more we push, force, and struggle, the more resistance we introduce into the equation. The more we insist that something must be done in a certain way and at a certain time, the more resistance we place in the path of whatever it is we're trying to achieve.

I know someone who is AMAZING at manifesting things.

Amazing.

They can focus their mind just a little bit and - poof! - the thing they were thinking about appears as if by magic.

The thing is that, for them, it really only works with things they're not that bothered about in the first place. Things like 'wouldn't it be fun if ...'

They ponder it for a minute, don't think about it again, and then, by some miracle, the thing appears.

Once we start talking about the stuff that really means something to them though, things get tricky.

These are the things that they've been wanting for a while. They've had discussions with others about them - about how they really want them but don't have them, about how expensive they are, about how hard they are to come by. About how 'so and so' has been trying to get one for years without success, about how you can only get one if x, y and z criteria are filled and even then it's virtually impossible.

Without realising it, they have introduced resistance.

With their limiting beliefs about what can be achieved and their insistance that this thing is so difficult to come by, they are unwittingly pushing it away - holding it under the water.

If they lightened up around the subject a bit, the thing they've been wanting would pop up into their reality at the perfect time.

How ironic, that the thing getting in the way of everything they want is...well, them!

It sounds easy when you're talking about someone else, doesn't it?

'Just lighten up.'

Hearing someone say 'just lighten up' when you desperately want something is like hearing someone tell you to 'calm down' when you're angry. It's a red flag to a bull 🚩

How are you supposed to lighten up when you are really invested in something, when you have something riding on it, when there's emotion tied up in it, when you really want (or worse) when you really need something - money, a car, that house, a job, a holiday, better health...

It's not that easy.

It is, however, simple.

So, if we can't 'just lighten up' what can we do?

We can change the subject.

Shifting our focus to something - anything - that feels easier, lighter, less drastic, less emotional and less important, is a brilliant trick, which is often overlooked.

I once heard another coach tell a story about a client who came to them with problems in nearly all areas of their life; health, relationships, work, money - they were so completely bogged down in the problems they felt like they were drowning.

The coach asked the client if there was anything in their life that was going right - if there was anything that brought them joy. The client said that they loved to ride their bike. So, the coach told them to do that as much as possible.

What happened was not an overnight transformation - I'd love to tell you that it was - but what they did find was that in riding their bike, they felt better. They spent more time feeling light and free and less time focussed on their problems feeling awful.

Whilst out on a bike ride, ideas and inspiration would come to them about how to solve one issue or another.

Bit by bit each problem got solved.

Not because the client forced the solutions, but because they stopped pushing against the problem.

When in doubt, ride your bike.

Chances are, we've been harping on about whatever it is we want for a while now - whether that's verbally or mentally, it doesn't matter.

We've analysed it from all angles, talked about it repeatedly, named the positives and the negatives, decided how we want it to come and when we need it by, we have really really tried. We think and talk about it constantly. It's always at the front of our minds, And yet? We still don't have it.

Insistence is resistance.

We can change our vibration from one of resistance to one of allowing by shifting our focus from what we want (or the absence of it) to things that generally come easily to us.

What you focus on GROWS, remember?

Focusing on the absence of what we want will just bring us more of that: the absence of what we want. Scarcity. Lack.

When we focus on the abundance that already flows to us easily in other areas of life, however, that energy begins to spill over into the places where we previously felt stuck.

Because appreciation shifts our vibration toward abundance.

So, what does all of this have to do with anything?

Well, for a start, once you understand how this all works, you can look at your own life in a more objective way.

You can see (or feel) where you are insisting/ pushing and where you are allowing and trusting, and start to shift your focus - or perhaps, if you feel ready, you might begin exploring your own limiting beliefs and start releasing resistance.

If you find it difficult to do that on your own, the great news is: you don't have to!

A Reiki session or a sound bath can be wonderful for raising your vibration, balancing your energy and releasing what is no longer serving you.

Even better, you can learn to do it yourself. My Reiki courses are designed to help you confidently practice, raise your vibration, and clear energy β€” for yourself and for others. Whether you’re just starting out or deepening your practice, these courses give you the tools to bring more ease, flow, and alignment into your daily life.

Or you might choose a coaching session to explore the deeper beliefs that may be holding you back.

As always, keep it simple. Just start where you are with what you've got.

Have a wonderful day, my friend,

Amy
