As we get closer to the summer holidays, I wanted to share a few suggestions to ensure your journeys are not only seamless but also serene. Whether you're jetting off to exotic lands or embarking on a road trip, let's explore the art of staying calm during your travels.
1. ✈️ Plan and Prep in advance:
- Research and plan your itinerary in advance to minimise surprises.
- Create a checklist to avoid last-minute packing panic.
- Include on your checklist - passport expiry dates, visa, and vaccination requirements!
2. 🌅 Early Serenity Rituals:
- Pack essentials ahead of time to avoid a last-minute scramble.
- Download entertainment (books, audio books, movies, TV series etc)
- Charge devices and organise documents the night before.
3. 🧘 Practice Mindful Moments:
- Engage in deep breathing exercises or mindfulness meditation to stay centered, especially if travel can induce anxiety.
- Focus on your breath during stressful moments, letting tension go with each exhale. Relax your shoulders. Box breath and 4,7,8 breathing in particular are wonderful go-to exercises in stressful moments.
4. 🚿 Nourish and Hydrate:
- Stay hydrated and keep energy levels stable with healthy snacks.
- Pack a reusable water bottle to stay refreshed throughout your journey. Most airports have a refill station these days!
5. 👗 Comfort is Key:
- Opt for comfortable clothing and shoes, especially for long journeys.
- Dress in layers to adapt to changing temperatures.
6. 🎵 Harmonious Travel Soundtrack:
- Create a playlist of calming music or podcasts for your journey.
- Use noise-cancelling headphones to block out distractions (they are worth every penny in my experience!).
7. 🤓 Stay Informed, Stay Calm:
- Stay informed about travel plans but limit exposure to stressful news.
8. 🎒 Keep Essentials Handy:
- Organise important items like passports and medications for easy access.
9. 🏋️ Stretch and Move:
- Incorporate stretches or short walks during layovers to prevent stiffness.
10. 🌈 Cultivate a Positive Mindset:
- Embrace a positive outlook and focus on the exciting aspects of your journey.
- View delays as part of the adventure, turning obstacles into opportunities.
