So, is it too late to ask how you'd like to spend your time this year and what you'd like to get out of it?
One thing I’ve decided to do this year is spend more time studying.
I read a lot and I love it. I like it because it focuses my attention (see previous blog on focus) and keeps me away from screens(!).
For the past few years, most of my reading has been non-fiction. I love to learn new things, expand my mind and develop myself, and I find reading a really great way to do that.
If the book is really good I won’t just read it, I will study it. For me that means having a notebook and pen handy to take notes as I go and maybe a highlighter and some sticky tabs to hand to flag the pages or sections I want to revisit or remember. Sure, it takes longer but it's so worth it, and every time you reread the book you somehow find something in it that you hadn't noticed before - or rather, you find something in yourself that wasn't there before.
Bob Proctor, a wonderful teacher and an expert in the area of personal development, used to re-read the same 2 pages of a book every day for a month. This way he could really understand and digest the content and was then able to teach it to others. He learned that from his own mentor, Earl Nightingale.
Just as an aside, If you haven't heard about Bob Proctor before, head over to YouTube after you've finished reading this blog and watch one of his videos. He really knew his stuff (because he studied it. Every. Single. Day).
Last year I read (and re-read!) many books about Reiki, energy and the chakras because I want to continue to expand my knowledge in this area. Continuous Professional Development is so important to me - the more I learn, the better I get and the better I get, the better I can support my clients.
Not everyone enjoys reading though, and for those who do enjoy it, it can sometimes be challenging to make time to sit and read. I get that. Other ways I like to learn, maybe while I’m walking, cooking, driving, cleaning (or doing something equally as glamorous, which does not require much thought) are through podcasts, YouTube videos and audiobooks.
Something that all of the great teachers and successful people agree on is that investing in your own learning and development is always time (and money) well spent. YOU are your most valuable asset!
If you’re looking for some reading (or listening) inspiration this year, here are some books I’ve studied that I go back to over and over again. They are so powerful and give you so much insight into how the mind works - into how YOUR MIND works. Not only that but they teach you how to use your mind to get whatever you want in life. What could be better than that?
I’ve linked* to the book versions here, but most of them you can listen to as audiobooks or on YouTube for free:
If you’re already familiar with some or all of them, I’d love to know what you thought - and if you have any book recommendations, please do share them!
However you have decided to use this year and whatever you would like to do with it, go for it. Go all in. Make it your best year yet. The time will pass anyway, so you may as well do something you want with it, right?
If you need some encouragement, I'm here to give it: there are no limits for you, so don’t place any upon yourself. You can be, do and have anything you want. All you need to do is decide what you want and go for it.
If you’d like to start the year with an energetic reset and rebalance, my calendar is open and you can now book and pay via my new booking page!
Happy reading, friends!
