Hello my friend, how has your week been?
If you're a parent or a small business owner or an employee or a student - or anyone really - there have probably been ups and downs, right?
There certainly have been for me as an entrepreneur this week.
Running a business is funny.
You don't have a manager to guide you or a task set by someone else that you can just mindlessly crack on with or a hype squad or 'wellbeing team' to pump you up or put on events to make you feel good, there's just you. That's it.
You decide the strategy, you set the tasks and you have to find the motivation and focus to see them through. So, if you're feeling energised, inspired and clear-minded it's generally smooth sailing and if you're not, well, let's say it's a bit more of a challenge!
This week I have been constantly been reminded of a quote I heard recently from Alex Hormozi: 'If you don't quit, you win.'
It's an interesting one for me because it's not obvious and if I didn't stop to think about it for a minute, I would probably disagree with it - you don't always win when you don't quit, right?
The thing is, you do!
You do win if you don't quit. You win the skill of perseverance, you learn tenacity, you learn resilience, you learn that you can do hard things, you learn what you are capable of. That is winning.
A side effect of not quitting is that we are also likely to achieve whatever goal we have set ourselves.
It's easy to feel discouraged when faced with setbacks or failures, and it's very easy to quit. But, just for today, what if we don't?
What if we just take another teeny tiny baby step in the direction of our goals or dreams. Just one. It doesn't have to move a mountain or win us an award or get our name in the paper, it just has to move us one inch closer.
Where I live there are road closures all over the place at the minute. I have no idea what they're doing but wherever you go, there's another closure. It would be very easy to see the 'road closed' sign, give up, turn around and come home!
The funny thing is that if you don't quit, you suddenly get creative. You are inspired to try different routes, you drive down a road you've never been on or you decide to walk or take the bus or the train and then, guess what happens?
You bump into someone you were thinking about last week, or you find a lovely little coffee shop you never knew existed, or you see a sign that reminds you of something you needed reminding of, or maybe you just find a quicker, better or more scenic route to get to your destination. These are all wins. Are they big wins? No, but so what? You didn't quit, so you win.
In case you needed it in the coming week, this is your reminder to keep going.
Keep showing up, keep putting one foot in front of the other, and keep believing in yourself. In the end, it's not the most talented or the luckiest who succeed—it's those who refuse to quit. If you don't quit, you win.
Wishing you a week filled with progress, breakthroughs, and moments of triumph. Keep going, you can do it.
Much love,
Amy 💜🤟
