10 practical tips for mid-year goal setting

Hello my friend!

As we find ourselves midway through the year, it's a great time to reflect on how far we've all come.

So first of all, how are you? Have you been working on a goal or project this year?

How is it going?

If you're right on track and and smashing your goals, just know that I'm here on the sidelines cheering you on - keep going, you're awesome!

If the plan hasn't gone to plan or if you've stumbled a bit and veered off course, it's all good!

The point of a check in is to pause for a moment, look back at all you have achieved, remind yourself of where you're going and why you want to go there.

As Ted Lasso says (in the series 'Ted Lasso' - if you haven't seen it yet, you need to get on that!), in every good movie the characters have to traverse their own version of a dark forest before they come out into the light at the other side.

So, if it feels like you're wading through a muddy bog in the middle of that dark forest right now, just remember that this is the middle of your movie, not the end - push through towards the light.

You can do it - you have already faced 100% of the problems that have come your way in life, right? Well, then you can do this too!

The last thing to grow on a fruit tree is the fruit, so give it time and don't give up, ok?

If you need a mental, physical or spiritual reset or if you're seeking some clarity and balance, book yourself in for a Reiki session. Even just 30 minutes can make all the difference and leave you refreshed and raring to go.

So, now we've taken a moment to reflect on how far we've come this year and think about where we want to go next, let's look at 10 practical tips for mid-year goal setting.

One of the best speakers on goal setting I ever heard was Bob Proctor.

Bob Proctor was a renowned personal development and success expert who shared valuable insights on goal setting throughout his career. He emphasized the importance of clarity, focus, and belief in achieving your goals.

Here's a summary of 10 key principles inspired by Bob Proctor when it comes to goal setting:

1. Clarity of Purpose:

First of all, as we touched upon above, we need to clearly define our goals.

Be specific about what you want to achieve; vague goals lead to vague results. If you're navigating a ship and don't set a course, you'll just drift.

Ask yourself: What do I truly want? and: Why do I want it?

The more clarity you have, the easier it is to create a plan to achieve it.

2. Create a Vision Board:

Visualization is a very powerful tool.

Create a vision board with images and words that represent your goals.

This helps to keep your mind focused on what you want to achieve. Even better is visualising yourself already having achieved the goal...and even better than that is FEELING what it's like to have accomplished what you set out to do. (As Neville Goddard says: 'feeling is the secret'!)

3. Set Stretch Goals:

Don't be afraid to set ambitious goals.

According to Bob Proctor, goals should be big enough to excite you. They should challenge and stretch your abilities.

In other words, go big!

4. Develop a Plan:

Break down your goals into actionable steps; a clear plan provides a roadmap for achievement.

Regularly review and adjust your plan as needed. Flexibility is crucial on the journey to success.

5. Affirmations and Positive Thinking:

Use positive affirmations to program your mind for success.

Affirmations are positive statements that reinforce your belief in achieving your goals.

Cultivate a positive mindset. Replace limiting beliefs with empowering thoughts.

6. Believe in Yourself:

Confidence is key. Develop unwavering faith in your ability to achieve your goals.

Your beliefs shape your reality. If you don't believe you can achieve something, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy!

If you don't believe in yourself yet, know that I believe in you - borrow that belief and use it to move forward.

7. Consistency and Persistence:

Consistent action is crucial for success. Take daily steps toward your goals.

Understand that challenges may arise. Persistence is the ability to keep going despite obstacles.

8. Continuous Learning:

Commit to lifelong learning. Acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve your goals.

Learn from successful individuals who have accomplished what you aim to achieve.

9. Surround Yourself with Success:

Associate with like-minded, positive individuals. Your environment influences your mindset and actions.

Motivational speaker Jim Rohn famously said that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.

Seek mentors or role models who inspire and guide you.

10. Regular Review and Reflection:

Regularly review your goals and progress. Reflect on what is working well and what needs adjustment.

Celebrate small victories along the way and acknowledge your achievements.
Remember, goal setting is a dynamic process.

These 10 principles shared by Bob Proctor emphasize the power of mindset, belief, and persistent action in achieving your aspirations.

One last note about goal achievement:

I just wanted to reiterate this point about goals, because I feel like someone might need to hear it today:

Goals (if they're big enough) will stretch you and challenge you and oftentimes it will get to a point in the process where you want to throw in the towel and just give up completely.

It will feel hard - at times perhaps impossible, and at times perhaps pointless - to keep going because it can feel like you're wading upstream whilst simultaneously being dragged backwards by the current!

DON'T GIVE UP!

Take a rest, have a nap, go for a walk, do some yoga, have something to eat, have a Reiki session, chat to a friend or loved one - do whatever you need to do to recharge your batteries and then get back on it. You can do it!

Many times on the way to achieving goals, I have wanted to quit. It has been hard, it has been stressful and it has seemed like a never ending process. I have seriously questioned on numerous occasions whether it was worth it to continue.

That little voice of doubt popped up again and again to remind me that I didn't need to do it, no one was forcing me, if I quit I wouldn't have wasted that much time (or money), I've done without it up until now after all, right? Man, that voice gets louder and more convincing when you're having a hard day, doesn't it?

Sure, you don't have to do this thing - or any 'thing' in life for that matter - but you chose that goal for a good reason. Remind yourself right now what that reason was and then spend a minute imagining what it will feel like when it's done - whatever 'it' is.

(Hint: It will feel really really good!)

If you want to do it, you can do it, and if you don't give up, you will do it.

You will.

You can get there, 'there' is a place and you are already well on your way. Take a rest and then get back up and keep going.

If you don't quit, you win.

Let's make the rest of the year unforgettable!

High-fives and good vibes my friend,
